Associate Institute Librarian

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is now accepting application for an Associate Institute Librarian. Within this role, you will support the campus community by providing the following library services: reference, instructional/classroom support, collection management, integrated library system, library technology, publicity/social media, institutional archives/institutional repository management.
As the Associate Librarian, you will have essential duties and responsibilities that will include:
Provides reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Collaborates with library patrons to understand their information needs. Teaches patrons how to use available resources efficiently and effectively. Assists them by answering reference questions and locating specifically needed information via phone, e-mail, chat/instant messaging, in-person, etc.
Instructional/Classroom Support*
Conducts general library orientations and teaches information literacy skills and competencies; Collaborates with faculty to provide specialized training on information resources especially, but not limited to those applicable to engineering, science, and mathematics; Creates and maintains educational, research, and library guides (LibGuides).
Information Literacy Curricula*
Creates information literacy curricula with input from faculty members; Creates information literacy training modules with input from faculty members.

Collection Management
Maintains library systems, such as EBSCO Full Text Finder, EZproxy, OpenAthens, LibGuides, LibCal, and networked library resources. Maintains electronic journal collection.
Integrated Library System*
GeniePlus administrator; Manages MARC record downloads from eContent suppliers; Conducts bulk modification and uploading of MARC records using the library ILS and MARCedit software in conjunction with technical services librarian; Consults on catalog procedures, processes, and special ILS projects, as needed.
Library Technology
Develops, publishes, and maintains the library’s internal webpages; Liaison with EIT on library computer projects, as needed; Assists students, faculty, and staff with computer and other technologies used in the library; Identifies, evaluates, and recommends new technologies to meet library needs.
Publicity/Social Media
Works in conjunction with the Library Coordinator on the library’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram); Posts news to the Rose-Hulman’s internal webpages (; Works in conjunction with the Senior Library Director to create library posters.
Institutional Archives/Institutional Repository*
Manages day-to-day operations of the institutional archives and repository databases (bepress, MediaHaven, ContentDM, InDiPres, MetaArchive, SharePoint, and Rubex); Maintains the archives and repository databases; Plans, organizes, describes, maintains, and preserves specified print and non-print collections; Promotes, publicizes, and trains others on how to locate, access, and properly use the archives and repository databases; Works with Senior Library Director to develop and/or update the policies, procedures, workflows, and strategic development/management plans for the archives and repository databases; Liaisons with internal and external entities, as needed, to build, manage, and promote Rose-Hulman’s archives and repository databases for public access.
Digitization and Optical Character Recognition*
Ensures critical Institute documents are digitized, OCR’d, and securely stored (Rubex, MediaHaven dark archive server). (Board of Trustees documents, Academic Affairs Committee documents, course catalogs, official Institute handbooks, etc.).
Collects, maintains, and analyzes web site, electronic resources, reference, archive, and institutional repository assistance statistics as assigned or needed; Promotes library services and participates in library promotional events; Stays up-to-date on developments in the fields of library science and actively participates in pertinent professional organizations; Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has supervisory responsibilities for a student worker who may be assigned to archival or institutional repository projects.

Education and/or Experience
Required Qualifications:
Qualifying candidates will hold an MLS/MIS/MLIS or equivalent advanced degree from an American Library Association-accredited institution (or international equivalent) by the employment start date and have 2+ years of professional library experience in the following areas:
Knowledge of and experience:

  • With academic resources, literature, and bibliographic databases.
  • In providing reference services and instructional support to academic / research library users.
  • In archival, digital, open-source, and special collection management and/or archival displays / library exhibits
  • Relevant work experience with computers and library technology (integrated library systems).
  • Customer focused with experience in handling client/customer expectations and service issues.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work independently, follow through on work assignments and work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, preferred candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or mathematics; Have ability to demonstrate knowledge of and experience with engineering, science, and mathematics information databases, resources, and literature; Discipline-specific experience in an academic or research library; Experience with managing electronic resources (i.e. EBSCO Journal Finder, LibGuides, EZProxy, OpenAthens, MARC records, usage statistics); Fluency in and comfort in utilizing the latest social networking tools and mobile technology; Recent experience in creating and maintaining websites (i.e. web and photographic/graphic editing tools).
