Job Description :

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation requirements in the Dietary Department consistent with the Home’s standards and philosophy, and in accordance with all regulations, codes, policies and procedures that govern the facility.
The Dishwasher will carry out their duties in keeping with the mission of Little Sisters of the Poor, namely the caring for the aged poor with love, respect and dignity. “Making the elderly happy, that is what counts” was a saying of the Little Sisters of the Poor foundress Saint Jeanne Jugan. Central to this philosophy is the promotion of a holistic approach for our Residents in an atmosphere of kindness and respect in creating a family spirit.
The Kitchen Helper must have:
  • Excellent Resident/Customer service skills

  • Excellent time management skills
    The Kitchen Helper will:
  • Familiarize themselves with all phases of the dietary department
  • Preparation of dishes, utensils, pot and pans for washing *
  • Be responsible for operation of dish machine and dish washing room/area *
  • Sort, stack, and deliver clean dishes, glass, tableware, pots, pans and other cooling utensils to the proper storage areas *
  • Remove trash and garbage to appropriate waste and recycling receptacles *
  • Inform supervisor of inventory needs *
  • Maintain high standards of sanitation, safety, proper storage and handling in accordance with Health department, State, and Federal codes, and Home policy as instructed *
  • Sweep & mop assigned areas as instructed, storing brooms, mops and buckets properly in storage area *
  • Report any irregularity or defects of equipment to the supervisor
  • Make optimal use of supplies, materials, keeping in mind cost and budget limitations
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Resident, departmental, organizational, and other sensitive information
  • Report any suspected Resident abuse in a timely fashion to the appropriate authority. (Mother Superior, Administrator, Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Household/Unit Supervisor, charge nurse or any other supervisor)
  • Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member within Department and with all departments or other disciplines *
  • Observe dress and conduct codes, including wearing identification badge
  • Complete duties in prescribed time *
  • Follow all safety, security, exposure control and hazardous waste policies and procedures*
  • Assist in receiving food and supply deliveries storing in appropriate areas as directed*
  • Attend in-services and department meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Work is performed primarily indoors but at times may attend meetings/seminars outside the facility or may participate in outdoor activities of the Home. Work environment is well lighted, clean and suitable to tasks performed by the employee within temperature control standards that govern a skilled care facility. Seldom are there exposures to toxins. Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot water, potentially slippery floors, garbage disposals and cleaning chemicals. The potential at risk factor pertains to Category I exposure to blood, body tissue, fluids, with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and bodily injury/illness.
Dish machine, Brooms, Mops, Buckets, Garbage Disposal, Cleaning Chemical Dispensers, Handwashing Sinks, Paper Towel and Soap Dispensers
The Kitchen Helper is able to:
  • Push, pull, lift and carry objects more than 30lbs; push/pull carts of more than 50lbs, and in cases of emergency, occupied wheelchairs of more than 200lbs
  • Perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking, sitting, etc. Able to perform simple manipulative skills such as, stacking, etc.
  • Walk, stoop, and perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination
  • Walk, stand, twist, squat, kneel, bend, reach above shoulders, stand for prolonged periods
  • Communicate effectively with dietary staff and others
  • Effectively and emotionally deal with stress created by organizational change, and working cooperatively as part of the health care team
  • Have sufficient vision to read instructions, distinguish colors and interpret gauges
  • Hear and receive verbal instructions and answer phone calls
  • Concentrate on moderate to fine detail with frequent to constant interruptions.
  • Function on task up to 60 minutes at a time
  • Perform simple and multiple tasks and assignments given to self and others ranging from short to long periods of time
