About the Role:

The Editorial Director will have primary creative oversight over all content developed for the Hawaii Wedding Style Magazine Publication. The Editorial Director will plan, coordinate, assign, and edit all written content for the bi-annual digital editions, annual print edition, website, and social media channels. Other duties will include planning the publication’s contents, allocating work to internal team members and consulting, and coordinating other publication functions as needed. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Strategy and Sales, this position will be required to work with divisional managers and other executive management as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May require supervision and leading associates with publication, content development campaigns, and other duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures content alignment with the publication’s mission and brand identity
  • Responsible for the development and curation of content for the entire Hawaii Wedding Style platform, including but not limited to the magazine, website, and advertorials. Content typically includes two articles per week, 16-20 pages for digital/print magazine, developed both internally and externally as needed.
  • Solely responsible for the development of coverlines, Table of Content, Editor’s Letter, Contributors page, island info, real weddings, feature, including production of editorial feature
  • Creates editorial line up for print and digital editions
  • Reviews publication content for formatting, adherence to style guidelines, and overall quality
  • Strategizes with relevant stakeholders on website content and development
  • Assigns print and digital stories, edits, and reviews all content to ensure it adheres to style guidelines and overall quality
  • Selects and maintains a capable and reliable group of writers photographers, and other freelancers as needed to ensure that objectives, quality standards, and deadlines are being upheld
  • Manages the editorial workflow process including reviewing submissions and overseeing the production of content for print and digital channels
  • Works with the Assistant Director of Sales and Strategy to help manage editorial budget to ensure that funds are being used efficiently
  • Collaborates with and acts as liaison to the Creative Director/Art Team once content is submitted. Assists in determining which images best suit the publication’s needs
  • Establishes and communicates timelines and deadlines to relevant parties
  • Strategizes ways to improve the publication’s content and increase readership through social, digital, and print channels
  • Other duties as needed

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or another related field. Master’s degree preferred but not required.
  • At least 5-8 years of progressive professional experience in the publishing industry or relevant fields.
  • Proven experience developing publication content over a diverse array of platforms (i.e. written, digital, etc.)
  • Proven work experience utilizing social media to maintain or build a brand (Minimum 2 years experience)
