Division/Group: The Undersea Technology Analysis Group (UTAG), within the Maritime Division in SPA, supports the Navy and other government organizations with timely and objective capability assessments, technology evaluations, and strategic planning that integrate the technical, operational, programmatic, policy, and business aspects of undersea warfare (USW) and broader Navy issues. One of UTAG’s clients is the Submarine Security Programs. The Submarine Security Programs is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and proposing countermeasures or mitigations for technical or operational vulnerabilities related to U.S. submarines. UTAG supports this program with external engagement planning and execution, and operations research and analysis.

SPA has an immediate need for a passionate and dedicated individual focused on national security issues relating to the security of the Navy’s Strategic Deterrent mission and platforms.

Responsibilities:

SPA is seeking a great candidate to provide direct support and advice to the SSBN Security Technology Program. The position is responsible for conducting research and analysis and drawing on technical and operational information to develop insights that will support support Security Program engagement with Submarine Force and Navy senior leadership. The individual will need experience in, or understanding of, submarine operations.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or relevant National Security Field.
  • 5 years of experience (operational, policy, security, survivability, and/or technical) relevant to Submarine Security.
  • Experience executing or reviewing technical studies, analysis, or design activities in their technical field.
  • Experience comparing technical performance to program objectives.
  • Project a professional demeanor, have strong writing and oral communication skills, and have the ability to pro-actively work both independently and with personnel from multiple organizations. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in SSBN operations or undersea warfare. Junior Officer or Department Head; ideally on SSBN.
  • Experience on military staff.
  • Experience analyzing metrics and conducting operational or technical risk assessment or root cause analysis especially in the areas of undersea warfare or SSBN security.
