Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Programmer Analyst to join our growing team of diverse professionals at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, who will work to support the U.S. Army’s Mission Command Training Program (MCTP).


  • Builds and codes applications and/or modules using languages such as C#, C++, VBA, Visual Basic .NET, ASP.NET, HTML, JAVA, XML, etc.

  • Provides patches and upgrades to existing systems, including RedHat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, and Microsoft Windows 10/11

  • Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program creation, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. May design graphical user interface (GUI) to meet the specific needs of users.

  • May build add-on modules using application program languages

  • Potential work on GIS applications (2D and 3D)

  • Simulation interaction/data collection

  • End-user tool creation with a focus on web capable, GIS-displayable, MS-Office integrated

  • Creates security-aware software and authentication and auditing capabilities in new and existing software

  • High-speed data collection, archiving, retrieval, and display in multiple formats (GIS, tabular, chart, 3D, etc.)

  • Participates in software migration efforts: Move-to-web, move-to-virtual, move-to-cloud

Basic Qualifications:

  • One of the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or closely related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or closely related field

  • Ability to gain Army IAT-II certification within 6 months, including obtaining CompTIA Security+ CE

  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Visual Studio and/or other Integrated Development Environments

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 2016 or later (e.g., Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Understanding of OOP (Object Oriented Programming)

  • Experience programming client-server and web-based applications

  • Experience with version control (prefer Git) and bug/feature tracking/project management tools

  • Experience with one or more modern scripting languages (Python, Javascript)

  • Experience programming in one or more web-capable frameworks/libraries (ASP.Net, Django, etc)

  • Database access programming experience

  • GIS interface programming experience

  • Must be able to work on-site at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas

  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 25% of the time)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance

  • Army IAT-II qualified

  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, C++, VBA, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, SharePoint, HTML, etc.

  • Experience with the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF), particularly in addressing Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) vulnerabilities; experience in particular with the Applications Security & Development STIG a strong bonus

  • Experience with Enterprise-Level system administration in Linux, Windows, and/or VMWare environments, including, RedHat Patch Management, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Deployment Service, Microsoft System Center/Enterprise Configuration Manager

  • Programming experience listed under basic qualifications is not just in classroom/tutorial environments, but in actual corporate/organizational production systems

  • Experience with older computer languages/scripting tools (C, Perl)

  • Experience with military constructive simulations (particularly Army); experience with live or virtual or other service simulations

Salary Range: $64,600 USD – $97,000 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
