Job Description

Provide reemployment services to soon to be released offenders on-site at a correctional facility. Coach inmates on all aspects of the job search and assist to build their personal and job skills for the primary goal of successful employment. The types of services that will be provided are development of employment plan to identify the employment goals, career planning, assessments and providing information for short-term pre-vocational services and reemployment workshops.

Will develop and maintain a documented plan of action for clients with proper and timely case notes. Will provide and facilitate employment and training services with primary focus of meeting needs of clients who are unable to obtain employment or require additional assistance.

Will conduct ongoing follow-up meaningful activities that will enhance the ex-offender’s employability (i.e., job development) to ensure successful outcomes.

Facilitate reemployment group and individual workshops such as job application skills, resume development, interview skills, mock interviewing, researching industry trends, soft skills that include communication skills, punctuality, and personal maintenance skills.

Provide community resource information to assist ex-offenders once released to support employment plan. Provide information about WOTC, Federal Bonding, housing assistance, food assistance, Vocational Rehabilitation, Registered Apprenticeship, short term training opportunities, Veterans, and other community resources.

Participate in development and implementation of customized recruitment strategies. Coordinate with the Business Services Team to match ex-offenders with job opportunities and provide labor exchange services leading to job placement. Provide ongoing follow-up to support ex-offenders to reduce recidivism and likelihood of re-offending.

No applicant for employment with the Iowa Department of Workforce Development can have a current, ongoing overpayment balance with Iowa Workforce Development without a payment plan in place. Select positions will be subject to a criminal background check.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;


an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of full-time public contact work obtaining, analyzing and evaluating data such as job/claims interviewing, testing, referral and/or placement, sales representative, credit investigation, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of supportive clerical and outreach functions for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;


employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to twelve months of full-time work as a Workforce Associate.
