Your Key Responsibilities

Knowledge of local planning agencies and codes, land development activities, site design considerations, and being comfortable working with clients and members of the community/public are a must. Must be eager to serve small cities and suburban communities in all facets of planning, zoning and development review and be willing to help our professional team bring projects from concept to deliverable. The candidate must have good writing skills, be comfortable making public presentations to boards and commissions, and be confident in working directly with clients.

  • Support planning clients with a range of services including land use application review, staff reports, zoning/subdivision ordinance work, and special projects as requested.
  • Coordination with multiple parties including internal teams, external consultants, and clients.
  • Make clear, verbal and visual presentations of staff reports and staff recommendations to city councils and planning commissions.
  • Prepare ordinance amendments and provide recommendations on zoning best practices.
  • Assistance with small area plans, comprehensive plans, and other long-range planning projects

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of planning best practices, local development codes, the entitlement process, and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years progressively more responsible planning experience
  • Ability to work independently and apply strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Competency with ArcGIS, Adobe InDesign
  • Experience or readiness for project management

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Land Use Planning, Geography, Urban Studies or related field. Master’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related professional experience
  • AICP Certification is an asset
